Splintered (Splintered, #1)Splintered by A.G. Howard

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really cannot say enough how much I loved this story. There's SO much more to Wonderland than what you've read, seen, or thought. From the start, I was so entranced, I just had to know what was going to happen next, how the secrets would come out, how our main characters would make it out alive!! Alyssa & her best friend, Jeb, are on a journey to fix an old family's curse & basically to fix what Alice messed up in Wonderland. They do these things with the help of a mysterious, manipulative, question mark kind of dude. (And NO, it's not the Mad Hatter, although, it would have made much more sense if it was.) His name is Morpheus, and perhaps we'll never know his true name, but it is someone who you should be familiar with if you know the 'story'. I had to give this book 4 stars instead of five because of him. Why? Because at first, I was like, "Yea, he's going to be a friend and help out these two that have ALL this stuff to get through just to go back home." Then, I was like, "Really? You made them go through ALL this so it benefits you, too?" But, hey it's okay, because he CARES/CARED. That's what I have a problem with...these supposed heroes making the heroine go through stuff and at the same time, anger them while making them do something they obviously do not want to do but must if ya want to get back home.(I get that.) Your intentions, Morpheus, were in the right place. How you went about getting those intentions fulfilled is where you messed up. I had a hard time with liking Morpheus. Yes, he redeemed himself. I guess I'm just trying to say that I felt it was unnecessary for him to do ALL that, instead of coming out with it in the beginning. It was such a back and forth with Morpheus. Up until the end. I loved this story. It's not what you think at all. It's a beautiful, haunting, imaginative expansion on what has happened since Alice was in Wonderland...all with some mystery, intrigue, and something new that'll keep you glued to this story. I can only imagine what the next book will be like. I'm excited and giddy to find out!!
